More than 250 people came out to meet Chicago Blackhawks players Corey Crawford, Jake Dowell and the legendary Tony Esposito at “A Night of Improv” hosted by CNCF with WGN Radio. The good-natured hockey players joined improv comedians from the iO Theater onstage, providing material for the show with tales of antics in the locker room and on the ice.The event, held February 22 at Chicago’s Park West Theater, was broadcast in part by Comcast Sports Net. Attendees were treated to live music, Giordana’s pizza, WGN Radio personalities and a raffle offering the chance to win prizes valued at up to $2400. Ticket sales benefitted the CNCF. A slideshow with information about neuroblastoma played throughout the evening. CNCF President Pat Tallungan and Dr. Susan Cohn, CNCF consultant and lead neuroblastoma researcher at Comer Children’s Hospital, got a chance to talk to the audience about the disease and the progress researchers have made with the help of private fundraising efforts such as the one they were attending.
There have been significant advances in increasing survival of high risk cases of neuroblastoma over the years, thanks to research and the philanthropic efforts of neuroblastoma families to raise money, Dr. Cohn told WGN Radio’s Bill Moller in a follow-up interview. Dr. Cohn spoke about the urgent need to increase fundraising efforts to fill gaps created by cuts to pediatric cancer research.,
