Green Bay Packer Ryan Pickett Returns to Host 8th annual Amazing Grace Golf Classic to Fight Children’s Cancer
Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Ryan Pickett is back on the front line this year to help raise money for the Amazing Grace Golf Classic May 19 to fight a deadly childhood cancer.

Amazing Grace returns to the Houston Oaks Country Club and Family Sports Retreat, at 22602 Hegar Rd., for its 8th year. Pickett will tee off along with Cy Young Award-winning pitcher Bret Saberhagen; former Dallas Cowboy Ed “Too Tall” Jones; former Miami Dolphin Mark Clayton; Golden Boy ring announcer Joe Martinez; and Eric Thomas, track and field Olympian (hurdles) and a two-time silver medalist at the Pan American Games.
Amazing Grace has raised more than a quarter-million dollars for the Children’s Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit that supports research, education and awareness of the disease. The golf tournament was created in honor of neuroblastoma victim Grace Scasny, who died in October 2006 at age 2. Neuroblastoma has a higher incidence rate than leukemia in infants but suffers from under-funding and a lack of awareness.
“We’re making strides toward better treatment and a cure, which proves that events such as this one are making a difference. But far too many children continue to suffer because of this aggressive cancer,” said Scott Scasny, Grace’s father. “The memory of our daughter propels my wife Rebecca and me to continue fundraising. We’re honored to have so many people standing with us and hope more will join us this year.”

Scasny added there are still sponsor opportunities and ways to participate for non-golfers, who can access a pool, picnic area, paddleboats, kayaks, and canoes, fishing, horseshoes, bocce ball, and grass or sand volleyball at Houston Oaks.

Registration opens on May 19 at 9:30 a.m. and the tournament kicks off at noon, culminating with a dinner and awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m. A party at the club the night before the tournament is open to all, $50 at the door, with a live band, a three-drink coupon, appetizers and a silent auction.

Corporate sponsors of Amazing Grace include Proserv, Oilfield Nameplates, Houghton, Oil Field Products, Ashburn, Sterling Relocation, Type B Solutions, Circle B, Swagelok (West Houston) and Insperity. To become a sponsor, contact Scott Scasny at or call 281-924-5214.

“As always, I thank Scott and Rebecca for all they do to make this event successful,” said CNCF co-founder and President Pat Tallungan, who is based in the Chicago area. “It’s no small thing; golf fundraisers like this one are helping to save lives.”
