Indianapolis Colts’ right tackle Ryan Diem will play the role of good sport during a Dodge Ball Tournament being held to raise money for neuroblastoma research and education on Friday, March 11, 2011, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Manning Elementary School, 220 N. Linden Ave., in Westmont, Illinois.
The public is invited to come out and watch 22 teams of students in grades 2 through 6 from Miller and Manning Elementary schools, and Westmont Junior High compete for medals and bragging rights for what is sure to be a fun-filled evening. The teams were formed in advance and each paid a fee to participate.
The event is free. Preschoolers, kindergartners and 1st graders will be able to sign up on site for the chance to throw balls at Diem. Money raised will benefit CNCF.
Manning 4th grader Luke Gifford came up with the idea for the tournament. Luke’s parents, Christa and Bruce, helped him organize the event and reached out to Diem to participate. Diem supports fundraising for neuroblastoma research and education through a separate platform called Allie and Friends, which hosts an annual golf outing to support CNCF.
Friday’s tournament and donations will be presented in honor of the memory of Manning student Lindsey Ledwon, who lost her courageous battle with another rare form of cancer in 2008. Diem will be available for autographs, media interviews and photographs throughout the event.
