July 16: Amazing Grace Golf Tournament

5th Annual Amazing Grace Golf Tournament

Rebecca and Scott Scasny of Houston will host the 5th annual Amazing Grace Charity Golf Tournament in memory of their daughter on Saturday, July 16 at the Houston Oaks Golf Course in Hockley, Texas.

The event promises to be a memorable occasion with activities for the entire family to enjoy. Over the years, Amazing Grace has raised more than $150,000 in support of neuroblastoma research, education and awareness.

“The key to a cure is awareness, and that is my No. 1 goal,” Rebecca Scasny said. “I cannot help my daughter, but if I can help prevent one family from going through what we did, then I can confidently say that I know the reason why she was taken from us so early.”

Grace Ashley Scasny was born March 10, 2004. Her parents described her as a very active little red-headed toddler before she was diagnosed with a tumor in her abdomen on her father’s birthday in January 2006.  A gifted surgeon removed 99 percent of the tumor, but the cancer returned within six weeks and Grace passed away in October 2006.

Saturdays’ charity event is family-focused and chock-full of the kinds of activities that make summertime fun. For a $50 donation, families can access a picnic area, paddleboats, kayaking and canoes, fishing, horseshoe and bocce ball, and grass or sand volleyball.  The golf portion of the day will include a four-person scramble format. A $200 donation per player comes with dinner and access to a live auction with a chance to bid on luxury vacation packages. There will also be a drawing for a 50-inch flat screen TV, DJ, playground and a swimming pool with life guards.

“This is a very special event in memory of a very special little girl,” said Patricia Tallungan, founder of CNCF.  “The heart of CNCF comes from families like the Scasny’s. They put a lot of work into making this event possible, and they do it all on their own. They’re amazing, and we hope everyone will bring their families and friends out to support this event.”

All proceeds will benefit CNCF. Those interested in participating in or sponsoring Amazing Grace should contact Scott or Rebecca Scasny at 713-203-1864, or by email at or
